Walk around Irton Park

This shorter walk takes us around Irton Park, a delightful area of woodland just to the south of Irton Pike at the entrance to Esk Dale.

High Stile via Burtness Comb

This walk is for more experienced walkers, and takes the path up the front of High Stile from Burtness Comb, before visiting Red Pike and Scale Force.

Asopius (d.428 BC) was the son of the successful Athenian commander Phormio, but had a much less successful military career himself, being killed during his first known command.

Phormio son of Asopius (c.470-429/428 BC) was a successful Athenian admiral in the early stages of the Great Peloponnesian War, best known for his two naval victories won in the Gulf of Corinth in 429 BC.
